Well, as you can see from the screenshot above, I actually reached the finish line on the 10th. I know the point of NaNoWriMo is to write every day and finish word 50,000 on the 30th and that be the end of the story. But I’m obviously taking it a step further. As of this morning, I have 9,849 additional words because I didn’t stop writing on day 11 and 12. I don’t plan to stop writing on the 13th or 14th or … You get the picture.
To create a habit, you have to keep doing it every day. This story isn’t quite over for me and I’m still wanting to build that habit so I keep going. Some of my early days I could only get 1K words. Clearly I have some outliers or my average words per day wouldn’t be around 5K. My best day so far was actually the 10th when I wrote 16K words and finished at 52K total. I’m telling you, I get on a roll and I just can’t stop.
So, for the remaining 19 days of NaNoWriMo, keep watching my word count grow. I won’t give up on this story until I see it finish. Here’s to all of you out there who keep writing every day. Keep working on those habits. See what comes from it. And may your story reach that “Ah-ha!” moment like mine just did. It’s all coming together. Let’s see what other fun I can have with my characters.
